About Us

Making Your Shoes

We make our moccasins and all our other shoes with love and care in our own family workshop. Let’s have a look at just how we do it.

It all starts with cutting out the individual sections of the outer and lining leather. You can learn more about leather here. We use press knives for cutting out, but some of our shoes are cut out by hand.

The next step is gluing and stitching, which is the most time-consuming part, and this may take up to an hour since we glue everything by hand. First we apply the adhesive to the vertical heel strip that connects the left and right sections of the shoe, then we sew through the strip using a sewing machine as you see in the picture. Then the outer and lining leather is glued and there is more stitching, at which stage the final product is already beginning to take shape, and our “ugly duckling” is clearly turning into a beautiful swan. When the leather upper is completed, it’s glued to the 4.5 mm-thick sole.

When we’re working on a new design not yet available on our website, we take great care to produce detailed pictures that present the product as faithfully as possible. We always try to photograph them in their natural environment, that is outdoors. Sometimes we even wait for several days for the ideal light conditions.

Our Story

IMG_3887-pro-webEveryone gets to write their own story in life, and this is mine.

Perhaps you're wondering who the vision is behind the LukShoes brand? It’s me, Lenka Luksova, but not just me alone, because I would never have been able to make it without the help of my family who have been in this venture with me right from the word go. They are my father - Vaclav, mother - Monika, and my brother - Vaclav Luks jr. We all work hard on the new designs for our shoes putting our heads together daily, helping one another and offering valuable advice for which I’m very thankful. I can say for both myself and my whole family that this work gives us a sense of fulfilment, and it is your orders and interest in our shoes that (literally!) put a spring in our step and keep us on our toes - day in, day out.

My journey to Barefoot footwear: my passion, my life.

Back in 2016 when I signed up for Pilates lessons, I got talking to the instructor and it was she who first told me about Barefoot footwear. That got me interested and I thought I would give it a try, so I bought my first Bf shoes, and soon found myself hooked on the Barefoot walking concept.

In the course of time, people around me also started wearing Bf shoes, but we found that there wasn't much to choose from on the market. And that was when I had my Eureka moment: “Hey - Barefoot shoes! What if I started making my own?”

It was not long after that our shoes as you now know them first saw the light of day. The first ones were the summer sandals. I spent many long days and weeks creating my shoe designs, finding out what worked and what didn't, and following them through.

One of my strong characteristics is not to give up, and I also take that as my mantra. I’m very grateful to my father for his experience gained by many years of practice that drives my quest day by day to my long-term goal, which is a healthy style of footwear for everybody.

And that, my friends, is the story. It's my story and the story of my family that is constantly developing. Thank you to everyone who took the time to read this.

THANK YOU on behalf of the LukShoes team, Lenka

Our Pictures

Our-photos-pro-web1We know how important it is for you to be able to look at the goods before buying, to see how they feel, and try them on, and this is especially true with footwear. When you shop online, of course, this isn’t possible. That’s why we help you by measuring the insoles for you, and by taking clear, detailed pictures.

We always try to photograph them in their natural environment, that is outdoors, where the true colours show up better in the pictures. Sometimes we even wait for several days for the ideal light conditions.

Particularly with barefoot footwear it is important to see how the shoes fit the feet and that’s why we also include photos of the shoes actually being worn on a real foot.

We take our photographs using a Canon EOS 600D reflex camera.

Taking photos of the shoes from all possible angles is just the beginning. We then work our way carefully through the many different pictures to select the best ones. Sometimes we take more pictures until we get the perfect shot. Then we resize the pictures and add our logo. For commercial purposes we will be happy to send you the photos in full resolution. All you need to do is send us an e-mail.

Our Materials

We make all our shoes from high-quality leather which we source from our local suppliers. Leather gradually adapts to the foot, and in this sense it’s a dynamic material. In the course of time, the colouring can change slightly. With proper care and regular treatment with leather spray, your Luks shoes will last you for several years.

Leather is a natural material with its own unique and original charm, and that means you will never find two pieces of leather with exactly the same colour and structure. In fact, it’s because every pair is unique that we like to use leather. Perhaps you’re wondering what the difference is between a hide and leather? A hide is the raw material which is processed in a tannery into leather, which can then be used to make shoes, belts, wallets, handbags etc.
